4.2.5 Dealing with unplanned incidents 
In this task area are assembled by way of example various types of unplanned incidents which neces 
sitate reaction within the framework of integrated navigation. The processes modelled here - apart from 
differences of detail - exhibit a uniform structure: 
Collection of the information necessary for an appropriate reaction 
Planning of the “reaction”. The reaction in this instance may be an evasion track or route, set course or 
speeds, or complex manoeuvres (eg in the event of man-overboard manoeuvres). 
The outcome is incorporated either in the “voyage planning” (checking and modifying the current voyage 
plan) or directly in execution of the voyage (stipulation of set courses or speeds).
