1. Ice observation data in Szczecin Lagoon and Pomeranian Bay in the period 1961-1990 
The Szczecin Lagoon and the Pomeranian Bay belong to the Polish - German border waters. 
The area under investigation is a part of the southern Baltic Sea and extends from the 
longitude 14° to 15° E and from the latitude 53°20’ to 54° 10’ N. Szczecin Lagoon is a semi- 
enclosed coastal lagoon where water exchange with the Baltic Sea takes place via three 
outflows: Peenestrom, Swina and Dziwna. 
The ice conditions are reported (Figure 1.1) for the northern coast of Szczecin Lagoon 
(Kamin, Kamminke), the southern coast of Szczecin Lagoon (Ueckermünde, Trzebie2), the 
central part of Szczecin Lagoon (fairway Szczecin - Swinoujscie, Zalew Szczecihski), the 
port areas (Swinoujscie, Szczecin, Dziwnöw) and the coast of the Pomeranian Bay (Koserow, 
Swinoujscie, Dziwnöw). In Table 1.1 the names of the stations, the coordinates, the number 
of observed winters, the number of winters with ice and the frequency of ice occurrence are
