Exange relations are fostered between 6Q0 - 700 partners in Germany 
and abroad comprising both, nautical and scientific publications, charts 
and maps. Ehe "Deutsche Hydrographische Zeitschrift 11 appeared in I960 in 
its thirteenth year with 6 numbers for every volume, At the close of the 
year under review the Hos.1 - 5 of volume 13 were available or completed 
respectively. Above this a total of 7 "Ergänzungshefte" (Supplementary 
Numbers) were issued of which No.3 of Series B reports on the participation 
of the German Federal Hepublic in oceanographical work during the Interna 
tional Geophysical Year. 
A voluminous volume is being prepared bearing on the history of German 
hydrography, entitled "400 Jahre Merkator-Karten" (4ÔQ years Maps in 
Mercator Projection). 
Ehe "Ausschuss des Seeyerkehrsbeirats für die Angelegenheiten des Deut 
schen Hydrographischen Instituts" (Committee on the Sea Transport Advisory 
Council for the Affairs of the German Hydrographic Institute) held its 17th 
meeting on March 15th I960 in the new experimental workshop of the G.H.I. 
at Kirchenpauerkai. After a report was given on the work of the Institute 
in 1959, the Committee was informed of the plannings in the German Chart 
Work for the year I960, which were approved of by the Committee after a 
thorough discussion. A lecture on "Demands on the carrying range of air- 
sound signals" gavé an insight into questions of producing and audibility 
of traffic and fog air-sound signals and of fighting the noise aboard which 
problems the G.H.I. and other institutions are striving to solve. Finally 
the persons attending the meeting were shown round the workshop and over the 
survey ship "Süderoog", 
The relations of the Institute to international organizations in scientific 
and technical fields were cultivated also in the year under review. Shus, the 
G.H.I. was represented at the preparatory discussions for the establishment 
of an intergovernmental organization for the promotion of oceanographic 
research which shall be set up at the suggestion of U1BSC0,
