Full text: Jahresbericht 1983

The Deutsches Hydrographisches Institut (PHI) in 1983
113
(EMC), founded in 1978, has been completed. Owing to the increasing num
ber of electronic pieces of equipment on the bridges of sea-going ships,
the tests for EMC gain in importance.
In 1983, the DHI issued 20 permits for the carrying out of research ac-
ion in accordance with the Bundesberggesetz (Federal Mining Law). In
accordance with the Rohe-See-Einbringungsgesetz (High Seas Dumping Law)
9 permits for the incineration of wastes on the High Seas were extended.
The permits for the disposal of wastes with the incineration ship "Mat
thias II" were cancelled, because the incineration system no longer ful
filled the regulations. The dumping of processed sewage sludges in the
High Seas was stopped in spring.
The DHI was involved in 38 preliminary legal proceedings concerning
detected pollution by oil, 5 fines were imposed.
The Library, which also looks after the interests of the Maritime Trans
port Division of the Federal Minister of Transport and the Seewetteramt
of the German Weather Service, increased its stock to 113,000 volumes.
