Die Expedition Auftrieb ’75 war ein Beitrag zu dem internationalen Pro-
gramm CINECA (Co-operative Investigation of the Northern Part of the
Eastern Central Atlantic), das der Erforschung des Kanarenstroms und
des Auftriebs vor der nordwestafrikanischen Küste mit seinen Auswir-
kungen auf die biologische Produktion diente (vgl. Fahrten Nr. 19, 26, 30).
Gemeinsam mit dem britischen Forschungsschiff DISCOVERY und einem
Meßflugzeug der Deutschen Forschungs- und Versuchsanstalt für Luft- und
Raumfahrt (DFVLR) untersuchte METEOR in besonderem Maße die Auf-
triebserscheinungen in Zusammenhang mit dem großräumigen hydrographi-
schen Geschehen sowie Probleme der räumlichen Verteilung der Organis-
men und ihrer Produktion und Nahrungsbeziehungen.
Die Fahrt der METEOR gliederte sich in zwei Abschnitte, Der erste Ab-
schnitt diente der Untersuchung des Strömungssystems und der Durch-
führung verschiedener biologisch-chemischer Projekte. Im Mittelpunkt des
zweiten Abschnitts standen vergleichende Untersuchungen des Benthos
im Auftriebsgebiet.
The expedition Upwelling ’75 was a contribution to the international pro-
gramme CINECA (Co-operative Investigation of the Northern Part of the
Eastern Central Atlantic) which served for the investigation of the Canary
Current and of the upwelling phenomenon off the Northwest African coast
and its effects. on the biological production (cf. cruises No. 19, 26, 30).
In conjunction with the British research vessel DISCOVERY and a rese-
arch plane owned by the Deutsche Forschungs- und Versuchsanstalt für
Luft- und Raumfahrt (DFVLR), METEOR especially investigated the up-
welling phenomena within the hydrographic processes as well as pro-
blems of the spatial distribution of marine organisms, their production
and food relationship.
This METEOR cruise was divided into two phases. The first phase served
for the investigation of the current system and particular biological and
chemical projects. Comparative investigations of benthos were the main
subject during the second phase in the upwelling region.
