Diese Fahrt diente in erster Linie Vermessungsarbeiten auf dem Schelf 
und dem oberen Teil des Kontinentalabhangs vor Südostgrönland zur 
Verbesserung der kartographischen Darstellung dieses Gebiets in den 
Fischereikarten. Außerdem dienten die gewonnenen Echogramme der Ergän- 
zung und Überprüfung der vom Deutschen Hydrographischen Institut be- 
arbeiteten „plotting sheets“ der GEBCO (General Bathymetric Chart of the 
Oceans). Mit Seegangs- und Windmessungen wurde die Beziehung zwi- 
schen Wind und Seegang weiter untersucht. Aerologische Beobachtungen 
sollten Fragen der Zyklogenese im Lee des Grönlandmassivs lösen hel- 
fen. In Fortführung der IQSY-Expedition 1965 wurde der Pegel der durch 
Kernwaffenversuche erzeugten künstlichen Radioaktivität gemessen, Er- 
gänzt wurden diese Arbeiten durch schiffstechnische Untersuchungen und 
arnithologische Beobachtungen. 
Primarily, this cruise served survey work on the shelf and the upper 
part of the continental slope off South-East Greenland for the improve- 
ment of the cartographical presentation of this region in fishery charts. 
In addition, the echo sounding served the supplementation and testing 
of the GEBCO (General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans} “plotting sheets“ 
processed by the DHI. The relationship between the wind and the wind 
waves was further investigated by means of wind and wind wave mea- 
surements. Aerological observations should help to solve questions of 
the cyclogenesis in the lee of the Greenland massive. In addition to the 
IQSY Expedition 1965, the level of the artificial radioactive isotopes 
brought about by nuclear weapons experiments was measured. The work 
was supplemented by shipboard technical investigations and ornithological 
observations.
