die Grundlage für eine statistische Untersuchung
der klimatischen Veränderlichkeit der Nordsee.
Ein wesentliches Ergebnis ist, daß bisher keine
andauernden Temperaturänderungen, sondern
nur Schwankungen mit mehrjährigen Perioden
festzustellen sind, die an Schwankungen im Nordatlantik
gekoppelt sind.
Das BSH beteiligt sich als deutsches Sekretariat
an dem Aufbau eines weltweiten
Ozean-Überwachungssystems (Global Ocean
Observing System - GOOS). Als ersten Schritt
für einen deutschen Beitrag erstellte es einen umfassenden
Statusbericht über bereits laufende
operationelle Programme und Forschungsprojekte
in Deutschland.
Nach dem Bundesberggesetz ist das BSH
für die Erteilung von Genehmigungen zur Durchführung
von Forschungshandlungen sowie zur
Verlegung und zum Betrieb von Transitrohrleitungen
im deutschen Festlandsockei der Nordund
der Ostsee zuständig. Die auf dem deutschen
Festlandsockel liegenden Gasrohrleitungen
wurden regelmäßig überwacht.
FS Gauß untersuchte im Europäischen
Nordmeer Wasser und Sediment auf radioaktive
und organische Schadstoffe. Die Ergebnisse
sollen zur Bewertung der Meeresumwelt besonders
in den arktischen Bereichen beitragen. Zusätzlich
soll dadurch geklärt werden, inwieweit in
der Kara- und der Barentssee radioaktiv verseuchtes
Wasser langfristig in den Nordostatlantik
transportiert wird. Dabei wurde auch die unmittelbare
Umgebung des 1989 gesunkenen
Atom-U-Bootes Komsomolets in 1700 m Tiefe in
Aktivitäten 1995
and is the German GOOS secretariat. As a first
step toward a German contribution, the BSH
compiled a comprehensive status report on operational
programmes and research projects
being implemented in Germany.
Under the Federal Mining Act, the BSH is
responsible for issuing permits for research work
and for the laying and operation of transit pipelines
on the German continental shelf in the North
Sea and Baltic Sea. The gas pipelines on the
German continental shelf were monitored routinely.
RV GauB investigated water and sediments
in the Norwegian Sea, Barents Sea, and Greenland
Sea for radioactive and organic contaminants.
The results will contribute toward an evaluation
of the marine environment, particularly in
Arctic regions. In this connection, also the longterm
risk of possible radioactive water transports
from the Kara and Barents Seas into the North-East
Atlantic was investigated. Measurements
made in the immediate surroundings of the
nuclear submarine Komsomolets, which sank to
a depth of 1700 m in the Norwegian Sea in 1989,
did not show any unusual concentrations of radioactive
substances.
The BSH imposed about 300 administrative
fines for environmental offenses committed by
shipping.
The symposium on marine environmental
matters, which the BSH organizes each year,
was opened by the Federal Minister for the Environment,
Dr. A. Merkel. Mrs. Merkel explained
the principles of German environmental policy
