44 Cruise Report, RV ATAIR, Cruise 067I033-1, Bremerhaven – Thybor?n – Aberdeen, 23 Jul – 15 Aug 2024
Figure 7.7. Spatial distribution of the uncorrected near-suface turbidity [NTU] during cruise 067I033-1
obtained from the flow-through ECO sensor and displayed as 30 min averages. Colours denote turbidity
in the range 0- 3.5 NTU, individual values are highlighted every 12 hours.
7.3 Perfomance of the Vessel-Mounted Acoustic Doppler Current
Profiler
A vessel-mounted Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (VMADCP) was used for continuous re-
cording of single-ping velocity data in the water column. The instrument is of type Teledyne
RD Instruments (TRDI) Ocean Surveyor (OS), operating at 150 kHz, with a flat phased-array
transducer mounted in the ship’s hull. As the VMADCP does not have any further built-in sen-
sors, additional data on heading and tilt was obtained from the ship's Hydrins system. Data
recording was carried out using the TRDI VmDas software, version 1.50.19. The characteristic
parameters of the device installed on RV ATAIR are listed in Table 7.2.
