Full text: BeJamDetect Project

Final Report of BeJamDetect Project
experimentation and testing, the costs of these platform of about €50000 and, in a lesser degree,
its form factor are quite prohibitive In terms of possible commercialisation. For these reasons, a
second platform, named miniaturized GALANT receiver, had been considered for the purposes of
the project. This platform has been developed since since several years before the start of the
orojects and reached a good level of maturity. The platfrom uses compact and less expensive
hardware that allows to lower the unit price below €10000, however, with the limitations of using
only a single frequency band and supporting array antennas with only up to four antenna elements.
At the time of preparing the project proposal it was anticipated that the hardware of the
miniaturized GALANT can be extended to the E1/E5a dual-frequency operation during the project
runtime.

The goal of the project was therefore defined as the development of a demonstrator of an array-
oased RFI monitoring system suitable for the needs of German governmental agencies in the
maritime domain such as the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency of Germany (das
Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie (BSH)) and the Federal Sea Police (die Bundespolizei
see). The development process and the search for the most suitable hardware solution was planned
to be executed in the following three steps:
Demonstrator 1 is to be developed based on the “large” GALANT platform version as used
in SiNafa project in 2017-2018. The software for detecting interferers in the E1 and E5a
aands with one or more multi-element antennas that is available from SiNafa project is to
ve slightly adjusted for the new application. The analysis of the interference situation is to
ve performed in post-processing, i.e. not immediately during the measurements but after
the completion the measurement campaign, by using short records of raw I&Q signal
samples on digital intermediate frequency (IF) that are recorded upon detection of RFI. The
demonstrator 1 is to be installed on a ship and tested under realistic conditions.
