Notice is hereby given, that a Lighthouse
has recently been erected by the Government
of Canada on Egg Island, oif the North
Shore of tlu- Gulf of St. Lawrence, in the
Province of Quebec.
Latitude 49° 3*' North.
Longitude 67° 10' West.
The Light is a revolving White Light,
shewing a flash every minute and a half. It
is elevated seventy feet above the level of
the sea, is visible from all points of approach
seaward, and in clear weather will probably
be seen a distance of fifteen miles.
The Tower is an octagonal building, thirty-
five feet in height, surmounting the Keeper's
dwelling, and stands six hundred feet from
the South end of the Island.
The illuminating apparatus is catoptric,
and consists of four powerful Lamps and Re
flectors. The Light was exhibited for the
first time on the 24th October instant.

Anzündung eines (neuen) Feuers auf
Egg Island.
Seit dem 24. October d. J. wird auf Egg
Island, an der Nordküste des St. Lorenz-
Busens, Provinz Quebeck, in einem neuer
dings errichteten Leuchtthnrme ein weisses
Drehfeuer mit Intervallen von 90 Se
kunden angezündet. Dasselbe befindet sich
in einer Höhe von 07,9 rheinl. Fuss (21,4
Met.) über der Meeresfläche und ist seewärts
von allen Annäherungspunkten, bei klarer
Luft ungefähr 15 Seem. weit sichtbar.
Spiegel- oder katoptrischer Leuchtapparat.
Derselbe besteht aus vier kräftigen Lampen
nebst Hohlspiegeln.
Der Leuchtthurm, der sich aufdemWär-
terbause erhebt, ist ein achteckiges Gebäude,
34 rheinl. Euss (10,7 Met.) hoch und 1 Kblg.
von der Südspitze der Insel entfernt.

has been placed by the Government of Ca
nada, on the North - westerly edge of St.
Roch’s Shoal, in the Upper Traverse, River
St. Lawrence.
Latitude 47° 22' 30" North.
Longitude 70° 17' 0" West.
The Light Ship has been moored in 3*/*
fathoms low' water, Spring tides, and is di
stant 2 1 /* miles above the old Light Ship.
Two White Lights are exhibited from the
Masts of the Vessel, one before the Fore
Mast, at an elevation of 16 feet from the

Auslegung eines (neuen) Feuerschiffes
an der St. Roch's-Untiefe.
An dem nordwestlichen Rande der St.
Roch’s-Untiefe, in dem sogenannten Upper
Traverse, St. Lorenz-Strom, ist ein Feuer
schiff ausgelegt worden. Dasselbe ist 2,5
Seem, oberhalb des alten Feuerschiffes, auf
einer Tiefe von 3‘/^ Faden (6 Met.) Spring-
zeit-Niedrigwasser verankert. Es fuhrt zwei
weisse, feste Feuer, und zwar das eine 15,5
