will have a range of about 17 nautic miles,
allowing 15 feet for the height of the eye,
and at lesser distances according to the state
of the atmosphere. The light will be seen
from about S.W. \ S.. round by the East to
about N.E. £ N.. or as far as the land will
permit The bearings are magnetic, and from
the vessel. A light of weaker power will be
show r n from the same lantern up the channel
towards Montrose Harbour. The tower mea
sures about 127 feet from base to vane, and
is built of white bricks.
The Commissioners hereby further give
Notice, that by Warrant of Her Majesty in
Council, dated 7th August i860, the following
tolls will become leviable in respect of the
said light on Montroseness, on and after the
day when the same shall be exhibited, viz.:
1. For every Vessel, whether British or
Foreign, which may pass or derive benefit
from the light on Montroseness, but not en
ter the harbour of Montrose, the toll of Eight-
Sixteenths of a Penny per ton of the burden
of every such vessel for each time of passing
or deriving benefit therefrom, if on an over
sea voyage; and One-Sixteenth of a Penny
per ton of the burden of such vessel for each
time of passing or deriving benefit therefrom,
if on a coasting voyage.
2. For every vessel, whether British or
Foreign, which, if on an oversea or a coas
ting voyage, may enter or depart from the
harbour of Montrose, in addition to the tolls
hereinbefore mentioned, the additional toll
of Sixpence, in respect of every fifty tons
or part of fifty tons of the burden of such
vessel, for each time of passing or deriving
benefit from the said light.
A vessel shall be considered to have en
tered or departed from the harbour of Mon
trose when she shall have crossed an ima
ginary straight line, drawn from the Seurdy
Stone to the outer extremity of Annat Sand.
