Documentation within the framework of the
BONN Agreement.
A drift buoy has been developed and used, which
determines its position automatically once a
minute relatively to the existing DECCA-navigation
system. The data are stored within the buoy and
are transmitted either to a receiving station
ashore or to a research vessel. The buoy tra
jectories indicate the typical movements of
water bodies in the German Bight and the
accompanying transport of suspended matter.
Owing to the strong tidal changes in the Wadden Sea
on the West coast of Schleswig-Holstein, a fast
synoptic coverage of a larger area cannot be
accomplished by research vessels. Therefore, a
small light-weight CTD-System for helicopter use
has been developed, which is battery operated and
is equipped with a light attenuation sensor in
addition to the standard configuration.
