RESEARCH 
There is not always a clear distinction to be made between 
"monitoring" and "research" measures. 
Apart from pure monitoring obligations persuant to legal 
provisions and other measures quoted under "Monitoring" 
there are some research projects under the heading above, 
which are primarily research measures, the results of which, 
however, are also to be used within the framework of moni 
toring activities. 
Due to some interconnections, under "Research", projects 
can be found which - as a whole or in parts - are incor 
porated into comprehensive assessment projects. Therefore, 
occasionally there might occur cross references. 
(For better orientation, the subtitles under which the 
projects are listed are indicated according to the British 
text NSC (TF) (88) 3.) 
Projects which are to investigate pollution by sea transport 
or other technical subjects related to North Sea research 
are quoted under the heading "Marginal Projects". They refer 
mainly to "Research".
