• Für den europaweiten maritimen Datenaustausch archi 
vierte das Deutsche Ozeanographische Datenzentrum 
des BSH (DOD) mehr als 500 Fahrtberichte zu 
Forschungsreisen aus ganz Europa, so dass insgesamt 
1 200 dieser „Cruise Summary Repoprts" online zur 
Verfügung stehen. 
• Das BSH beteiligt sich mit insgesamt 30 autonom 
arbeitenden Tiefseedriftern an dem internationalen 
Ozean-Beobachtungsprogramm ARGO, das Daten 
zu Klimaveränderungen im Nordatlantik liefert. 2004 
wurden die ersten 10 dieser Floats ausgelegt. 
• Auch an dem von der Europäischen Weltraumbehörde 
ESA geförderten Projekt „CoastWatch" hat sich das BSH 
beteiligt. CoastWatch liefert flächendeckende Daten 
des Umweltsateliten ENVISAT für die Nord- und Ostsee. 
• Für das Labor des BSH in Hamburg-Sülldorf, das zu 
den führenden meereschemischen Laboren zählt, wurde 
der Grundstein für ein neues Gebäude mit modernsten 
Arbeitsbedingungen gelegt. 
Die Untersuchungsergebnisse des BSH fließen in 
internationale Qualitätsberichte ein, die von den 
regionalen Meeresumwelt-Organisationen regelmäßig 
herausgegeben werden: für den Nordostatlantik von

BSH’s German Oceanographic Data Centre (DOD) 
archived more than 500 research cruise summary 
reports from European countries, so that a total of 
1,200 reports are now available online. 
• The BSH contributed 30 autonomous deep sea drifters 
to the international ocean observing programme 
"ARGO”, which provides data on climate changes in 
the North Atlantic Ocean. The first 10 floats were 
deployed in 2004. 
• The BSH also took part in the "CoastWatch” project 
supported by the European Space Agency (ESA). 
CoastWatch makes available complete data cover 
age for the North and Baltic Seas from the ENVISAT 
environmental satellite. 
• The foundation stone for a new building providing 
state-of-the art working conditions has been laid at 
the premises of the BSH’s laboratory, which is among 
the leading marine chemical laboratories. 
The BSH’s measurement data are used in the compi 
lation of international quality status reports which are 
issued at regular Intervals by the regional marine 
environmental organisations: the OSPAR Commission
