57 000 km 2 , was einem Sechstel der Landfläche Deutschlands entspricht. Je 
nach Gegebenheiten sieht das Vermessungskonzept des BSH systematische 
Wiederholungsvermessungen in Abständen zwischen 1 und 30 Jahren vor.

Hydrographic surveys and wreck search 
Hydrographic surveys are a prerequisite to safe shipping. They also 
provide basic data needed for environmental protection, coastal 
defence and hydraulic engineering measures. However, as the seabed 
changes continually depending on current conditions and sediment 
transports, the data have to be updated at regular intervals.
