Final Report of BeJamDetect Project
Z
Yo
As reproduced on the two snapshots of the GUI on Figure 5-17, the waveform present in these
multiple events in sequence was of a pulsed signal with the carrier frequency close to 1182 MHz,
two characteristic parameters of DME/TACAN signals.
According to the position information at the time of the sequence of events (see Figure 5-18), the
ship was located close to the exit of the Unterwarnow channel on the Baltic sea. It is in the range
of the DENEB ship’s positions in the first measurement campaign when it was also frequently
affected by DME/TACAN systems (Figure 3-31 for reference). On Figure 5-18 the positions of the
two closest DME/TACAN stations are also marked.
zigure 5-18 - DENEB position during long RFI event on September 27
5.4.2.2. Very strong RFI event in L5 band on October 16
In addition to its susceptibility to interference from official sources, specially from ARNS systems,
the L5 band is also susceptible to malicious interference and interference caused by non-linear
behaviors of electronic systems. In this case, the RFI does not come from a known source, and yet
has caused a large increase of the input power, in over 10 dB, as reproduced on Figure 5-19.
