A sacrificial anode (galvanic anode) is a piece of metal that protects
steel structures from corrosion underwater by dissolving ("sacrifi-
cing") itself. However, this results in the release of components
from the sacrificial anode into the marine environment. Different
amounts are released depending on the foundation type and its
coating, as well as the environmental conditions.
