Nordvalen liegt dichtes, aufgepresstes 20-50 cm 
dickes Eis. - Schwedische Küste: SE-lich von 
olmö6arna tritt bis Nordvalen dichtes bis lockeres 
20-50 cm dickes Eis auf. 5 sm SW-lich von 
Nordvalen treiben einige grobe, aufgepresste 20-40 
cm dicke Eisschollen, sonst kommt meist offenes 
Wasser vor. 
Norrskär. Farther out to Nordvalen there is close 
10-20 cm thick ice, south of it there is very open 
ice. North of Nordvalen there is close ridged 20-50 
cm thick ice. - Swedish Coast: Southeast of 
Holmöarna to Nordvalen there is close to open 20- 
50 cm thick ice. 5 nm southwest of Nordvalen 
some heavy ridged 20-40 cm thick floes are 
drifting, else mostly open water occurs. 
Bottenvik 
Finnische Küste: Die Schären sind im Norden mit 
40-85 cm, im mittleren und S-lichen Teil mit 35-60 
cm dickem Festeis bedeckt. Anschließend kommt im 
Norden zusammenhängendes, stark aufgepresstes 
40-60 cm dickes Eis vor. Im mittleren und S-lichen 
Teil liegt sehr dichtes, übereinandergeschobenes 
ınd aufgepresstes 20-50 cm dickes Treibeis. - 
Schwedische Küste: In den Schären 30-80 cm 
dickes Festeis. Auf See liegt sehr dichtes 30-70 cm 
dickes Eis, in dem gröbere Schollen, Presseisrücken 
ınd viele Risse vorkommen. Ein Bereich mit 
offenem Wasser befindet sich zwischen 10 sm N- 
ich bis 10 sm S-lich von Farstugrunden. Eine 5-10 
3m breite Rinne verläuft entlang der Küste von 
\ygrän bis Norra Kvarken; in der Rinne treibt auf der 
Aöhe von Blackkallen lockeres Eis mit groben 
Eisschollen dazwischen. 
Bay of Bothnia 
Finnish Coast: In the northern Bay of Bothnia 
‘here is 40-85 cm, in the central and southern part 
35-60 cm thick fast ice in the archipelago. Farther 
out there is consolidated, heavily ridged 40-60 cm 
*hick ice in the north. In the central and southern 
part there is very close, rafted and ridged 20-50 
zm thick ice. - Swedish Coast: In the archipelagos 
there is 30-80 cm thick fast ice. At sea mostly very 
slose 30-70 cm thick ice with heavy floes, ridges 
and numerous cracks occurs. An area with open 
water occurs between 10 nm north and 10 nm 
south of Farstugrunden. A 5-10 nm wide lead 
streitches along the coast from Nygrän to Norra 
Kvarken; in the lead there is by Blackkallen open 
ice with heavy ice floes in-between. 
Voraussichtliche Eisentwicklung 
In den nächsten drei bis vier Tagen wird das Eis auf 
See im Finnischen und Rigaischen Meerbusen in E- 
iche Richtungen treiben, die eisbedeckte Fläche 
wird weiter abnehmen. Bei Winden aus meist NW- 
ind W-lichen Richtungen wird sich die Eislage an 
der finnischen Küste im Bottnischen Meerbusen ver- 
schlechtern, da das Eis dort zusammengeschoben 
wird.

Expected Ice Development 
During the next three to four days, the ice at sea in 
'he Gulfs of Riga and Finland will drift to the 
easterly directions, and ice covered area will further 
decrease. Due to winds mostly from the northwest 
and west, ice conditions off the Finnish coast in the 
Gulf of Bothnia will become worse, as the ice will 
be compacted there.
