Information of the Icebreaker Services
Estonia
icebreaker: EVA-316 is assisting to Pärnu Bay, no service for tugs and barges.
Finland
Icebreaker: KONTIO and OTSO assist in the Bay of Bothnia. METEOR assists in the Saimaa Canal and in
the southern Lake Saimaa, PROTECTOR in the northern Lake Saimaa and LETTO in the central Lake
Saimaa.
Norway
In the areas of Vestfjorden and in the inner harbour of Tonsberg navigation is possible with icebreaker
assistance, ice class is required. Navigation in Langärsund is temporarily closed.
Russia
Tow boat-barges are not assisted to St. Petersburg.
Icebreaker: Icebreakers IVAN KRUZENSTERN, KAPITAN ZARUBIN and YURI LISYANSKI assist low-
powered vessels in the port of St. Petersburg. In the ports Vyborg and Vysotsk low-powered vessels are
assisted by icebreaker KAPITAN IZMAILOW. MUDJUG is working in the port of Primorsk.
Sweden
Vessels not suitable for winter navigation, river vessels and tugs with barge can not expect governmental
cebreaker assistance.
All ships entering harbours in the Gulf of Bothnia shall, when passing Svenska Björn (59° 33’N 20° 01’E),
contact ICEINFO on VHF channel 84.
Arrival report is to be made to ICEINFO, on VHF channel 16, when the ship is well moored, including ship’s
ı1ame, ETD and next port of destination.
Departure report is to be made to ICEINFO, on VHF channel 16, at least 6 hours before departure.
Icebreaker: ALE, FREJ and ATLE assist at need in the northern Bay of Bothnia.
