Auf See liegt im Nordosten größtenteils sehr dichtes 
Ind aufgepresstes 20-50 cm dickes Eis mit groben 
Eisschollen dazwischen. Eine 3-8 sm breite Rinne 
nit offenem Wasser erstreckt sich von Malören bis 
nördlich Farstugrunden. Die Eisgrenze verläuft etwa 
von Falkensgrund über 10 sm westlich von Ulkokalla 
1ach Kokkola. Auf See können westlich dieser Linie 
einzelne Eisschollen und Eisblöcke treiben, sonst 
eisfrei.

eastern part there is mostly very close and ridged 
20-50 cm thick ice with heavy floes in between. A 
3-8 nm wide lead with open water extends from 
Malören to the north of Farstugrunden. The ice 
sdge runs from about Falkensgrund via 10 nm west 
of Ulkokalla to Kokkola. At sea, west of this line, 
single ice floes and floebits may drift, else ice-free. 
Voraussichtliche Eisentwicklung 
Im nördlichen Ostseeraum wird bis über das 
Wochenende hinaus eine windschwache 
Ädochdruckwetterlage wetterbestimmend sein. Trotz 
Örtlicher Nachtfröste wird sich der jahreszeitliche 
Eisrückgang in der Bottenvik durch die tagsüber 
deutlich ansteigenden Lufttemperaturen und 
verstärkte Sonneneinstrahlung fortsetzen. Die 
Eisverhältnisse im finnischen Küstenbereich bleiben 
aber weiterhin schwierig, da das Eis dort 
zusammengeschoben liegen bleibt. 
Expected Ice Development 
A high pressure weather situation with weak winds 
will affect the weather in the northern region of the 
Baltic Sea past week-end. In spite of local night 
frost, the seasonal retreat of the ice in the Bay of 
Bothnia will continue due to rising air temperatures 
and intensified insolation during the daytime. The 
ice conditions off the Finnish coast remain difficult 
as the ice will be further compacted there.

Information of the Icebreaker Services 
Finland 
Icebreaker: OTSO and KONTIO assist in the Bay of Bothnia. METEOR assists in the Lake Saimaa. 
Sweden 
Vessels not suitable for winter navigation, river vessels and tugs with barge can not expect governmental 
cebreaker assistance. All ships entering harbours in the Bay of Bothnia shall, when passing Svenska Björn 
(N 59°33’ E 20°01’) contact the VTS Gävle on VHF channel 84. 
Icebreaker: YMER and ALE assist in the Bay of Bothnia.
