Bay of Bothnia 
Totally ice covered, with up to 60 cm thick ridged 
ice at sea in the northeast and thin ice in the 
southwest. 
Finnish Coast: The northern archipelagos are 
zovered up to the line Kemi 2 — Oulu 1 with 40-70 
om, the southern archipelagos with 20-50 cm thick 
'ast ice. Farther out there is in the northern part 
very close, heavily ridged 30-60 cm thick ice, in the 
southern part very close 15-30 cm thick drift ice. 
South of the line Bjuröklubb — Helsingkallan new 
ice and ice formation occurs. - Swedish Coast: 
The northern archipelago are covered with 20-70 
cm, the southern archipelagos with up to 60 cm 
thick fast ice. In the northern part there is mostly 
very close 20-50 cm thick ice with ridges and some 
embedded thicker floes. Off the entrance to 
Karlsborg a lead covered by new ice is running 
towards Kemi 1. From Falkensgrund to Gäsö6ren 
there is an approximately 15 nm wide lead, 
covered with new ice. The passage past Bjuröklubb 
ıs obstructed by heavy ice floes. In the southern 
part there is west of 22° E new ice with some 
thicker ice floes in between, east of it very close 
15-30 cm thick ice with ridges. 
Bottenvik 
Vollständig eisbedeckt, mit bis zu 60 cm dickem Eis 
nit Presseisrücken im Nordosten und Neueis in 
Südwesten. 
Finnische Küste: Die nördlichen Schären sind bis 
zur Linie Kemi 2 — Oulu 1 mit 40-70 cm, die 
südlichen Schären mit 20-50 cm dickem Festeis be- 
deckt. Außerhalb davon liegt im Norden sehr 
dichtes, stark aufgepresstes 30-60 cm dickes Eis, im 
Süden sehr dichtes 15-30 cm dickes Treibeis. 
Südlich der Line Bjuröklubb — Helsingkallan kommt 
NVeueis und Eisbildung vor. - Schwedische Küste: 
In den nördlichen Schären 30-70 cm, in den süd- 
ichen Schären bis zu 60 cm dickes Festeis. Auf See 
iegt im Norden größtenteils sehr dichtes 20-50 cm 
dickes Eis, in dem Presseisrücken und einige 
dickere Schollen vorkommen. Außerhalb der 
Einfahrt nach Karlsborg verläuft in Richtung Kemi 1 
eine mit Neueis bedeckte Rinne. Von Falkensgrund 
bis Gäsören erstreckt sich eine etwa 15 sm breite, 
nit Neueis bedeckte Rinne. Die Durchfahrt ist bei 
Bjuröklubb durch grobe Eisschollen versperrt. Im 
südlichen Teil kommt westlich von 22° E Neueis mit 
einigen dickeren Eisschollen dazwischen, östlich 
davon sehr dichtes 15-30 cm dickes Eis mit 
Presseisrücken vor. 
Voraussichtliche Eisentwicklung 
Auf der Rückseite eines Tiefdruckgebiets über 
Baltikum, das sich ostwärts verlagert, gelangt in den 
ı1ächsten drei bis vier Tagen vom Norden her polare 
Kaltluft in den Ostseeraum. Im nördlichen 
3ottnischen Meerbusen und im östlichen Finnischen 
Meerbusen ist in den offenen Bereichen mit 
Eisbildung zu rechnen. 
Expected Ice Development 
On the rear side of a low over Baltic States moving 
eastwards cold polar air will flow from the north into 
‘he region of the Baltic Sea during the next three to 
our days. Ice formation is to be expected in the 
northern Gulf of Bothnia and in the eastern part of 
‘he Gulf of Finland
