coast of South America were issued. The last copies of the new track charts
for the Brasilian waters could be published until the end of the year. 6 charts
were added to the former number of coastal and special charts of the west coast
of South America. One chart was issued out of the number of general charts plan
ned for the western part of the Pacific.
An aid to fishery shall be given by the so-called "North-Sea-Fisherles-
Charts"’, 1 : 250 000. Germany will produce two copies of the total amount of
30 sheets.
The publication of multicolour charts by the G.H.I. was met with keen approval.
The temporary delay in the correction of the charts by hand will be compensated
by the introduction of new correctional methods.
The printing shop of the chart establishment could continuously be modernized
and enlarged during the last year. An obsolete stone print press was replaced
by a modern colour offset press, two Rewa proof print presses by a modern offset
proof print press.
Out of the 48 books of the Sailing Direction Establishment the Handbuch des
Indischen Ozeans (pilot of the Indian Ocean) and the pilots Baltic Sea (I),
Norway (II), West Coast of Ireland and Irish Sea were re-edited. Besides this,
13 supplements and the numbers Winterbetonnung der deutschen Küstengewâsse'r
(Buoyage in the German coastal waters) and Bezeichnung der deutschen Küstengewâs-
ser (system of buoyage in the German coastal waters) were published. The Sprech-
funk für Küstenschiffahrt (R/T service for coastal vessels) was kept up to date
by monthly supplements amounting to 1 500 copies. For the list of lights com
prising all oceans 440 blocks and 4 750 individual corrections were issued. 13
books were re-edited. Every fortnight supplements in an edition of 2 700 copies
were published for the German list of Radio Signals used all over the world. The
German Notices to Mariners were being edited once a week in an edition of 3 500
copies and the single enclosures Verzeichnis der Zwangswege (list of the official
routes) and Karten der Verbotszonen (charts of the'prohibited areas) ((Prevention
of the pollution of the. sea by oil)).
The tide tables and calendars were published in the usual form as well as the
Nautisches Jahrbuch (nautical yearbook), the Erdmagnetisch.es Jahrbuch (geomagne
tic yearbook), the Feuerschiffsbeobachtungen (observations from lightvessels)
and the Deutsche Hydrographische Zeitschrift (German Hydrographic Journal), etc.
