Norra Kvarken 
Finnische Küste: Zwischen Vaasa und Storhästen 
liegt dünnes Eis. Schwedische Küste: In der 
Einfahrt nach Holmsund kommt dünnes Eis, 
außerhalb davon Neueis vor. 
Bottenvik 
Finnische Küste: In den nördlichen inneren Schären 
25-40 cm dickes Festeis. Außerhalb Kemi bis Kemi 
1 kommt 10-30 cm dickes sehr dichtes Eis vor. 
Außerhalb Oulu bis Oulun Portti tritt 10-30 cm dickes 
sehr dichtes, teilweise aufgepresstes Eis auf, 
Außerhalb Raahe kommt dünnes Eis vor. Die Eis- 
grenze verläuft etwa von Malören über Oulun Portti 
zum Raahe-Leuchtturm. Am Eisrand bildet sich 
“estgestampftes Eis. In den südlichen Schären liegt 
dünnes Eis. Schwedische Küste: In den nördlichen 
Schären Festeis, 15-40 cm dick. Auf See treibt im 
Bereich zwischen Rödkallen und 20 sm östlich von 
Tarstugrunden lockeres bis teilweise dichtes 3-8 cm 
dickes Eis. In der Einfahrt nach Pitea kommt 5-10 cm 
dickes kompaktes Eis vor.

Bay of Bothnia 
Finnish Coast: In the northern inner archipelago 
25-40 cm thick fast ice. Off Kemi to Kemi 1 there is 
10-30 cm thick very close ice. Off Oulu to Oulun 
Portti there is 10-30 cm thick very close, partly 
idged ice. There is thin ice off Raahe. The ice edge 
‚uns approximately from Malören via Oulun Portti to 
Raahe lighthouse. At the ice edge a jammed ice 
varrier is forming. In the southern archipelago there 
is thin ice. Swedish Coast: In the northern 
archipelago fast ice, 15-40 cm thick. At sea 3-8 cm 
'hick open and partly close ice is drifting in the area 
vetween Rödkallen and 20 nm east from 
Farstugrunden. In the entrance to Pitea 5-10 cm 
thick compact ice occurs. 
Voraussichtliche Eisentwicklung 
ın den nächsten zwei Tagen kann sich in der 
Bottenvik etwas Neueis bilden, sonst werden sich die 
Eisverhältnisse im nördlichen Ostseeraum nicht 
yesentlich verändern. Im Verlauf des Donnerstags 
zieht ein umfangreiches Tiefdruckgebiet über der 
nördlichen Nordsee langsam ostwärts bis 
nordostwärts und wird bis Sonntag für den 
Ostseebereich wetterbestimmend sein. Dann ist bei 
starken südlichen Winden mit windbedingten 
Anderungen der Eislage zu rechnen. Das Eis in der 
nördlichen Bottenvik und im östlichen Finnischen 
Meerbusen wird an den Nordküsten zusammen- 
geschoben, zeitweise sind Eispressungen möglich.

Expected Ice Development 
Within the next two days some new ice may form in 
Ihe Bay of Bothnia, else ice conditions in the 
northern region of the Baltic Sea will not change 
very much. In the course of Thursday an intense 
'OW pressure area over the northern North Sea will 
slowly move eastwards to northeastwards and 
affect the weather in the Baltic Sea region till 
Sunday. Then, wind induced changes of the ice 
situation are to be expected due to strong southerly 
Winds. The ice in the northern Bay of Bothnia and in 
the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland will be 
sompacted at the northern coasts. At times, ice 
pressure is possible.
