Norra Kvarken 
Finnische Küste: Zwischen Vaasa und Storhästen 
ritt dünnes Eis, anschließend Neueis auf. 
Schwedische Küste: In der Einfahrt nach Holmsund 
kommt dünnes Eis, außerhalb davon dicht an der 
Küste Neueis vor. 
Bottenvik 
Finnische Küste: In den nördlichen inneren Schären 
25-40 cm dickes Festeis. Außerhalb Kemi bis Kemi 
1 kommt 10-30 cm dickes kompaktes Eis vor. 
Außerhalb Qulu bis etwa Qulun Portti tritt 10-30 cm 
dickes sehr dichtes, teilweise aufgepresstes Eis auf. 
Außerhalb Raahe kommt dünnes Eis vor. Die Eis- 
grenze verläuft etwa von Malören über Oulun Portti 
zum Raahe-Leuchtturm. Der Eisrand wird aus 
“estgestampftem Eis gebildet. Weiter seewärts 
kommt Neueis und Eisbildung vor. In den südlichen 
Schären liegt dünnes Eis. Schwedische Küste: In 
den nördlichen Schären Festeis, 15-40 cm dick. Auf 
See im Bereich Pitea — Norströmsgrund — 10 sm 
Sstlich von Farstugrunden kommt dichtes 3-8 cm 
dickes Eis vor. In der Einfahrt nach Piteä liegt 5-10 
cm dickes kompaktes Eis. Von Sikeä südwärts hat 
sich dicht an der Küste Neueis gebildet. 
Norra Kvarken 
Finnish Coast: From Vaasa to Storhästen there is 
thin ice, farther off new ice. Swedish Coast: In the 
entrance to Holmsund there is thin ice, farther off 
new ice occurs close to the coast. 
Bay of Bothnia 
Finnish Coast: In the northern inner archipelago 
25-40 cm thick fast ice. Off Kemi to Kemi 1 there is 
10-30 cm thick compact ice. Off Oulu to about 
Dulun Portti there is 10-30 cm thick very close, 
dartly ridged ice. There is thin ice off Raahe. The 
ce edge runs approximately from Malören via 
Oulun Portti to Raahe lighthouse. At the ice edge 
there is a jJammed ice barrier. Farther seawards 
there is new ice and ice formation. In the southern 
archipelago there is thin ice. Swedish Coast: In the 
northern archipelago fast ice, 15-40 cm thick. At 
sea 3-8 cm thick close ice is located in the area 
Pitea — Norströmsgrund — 10 nm east from 
Farstugrunden. In the entrance to Piteäa 5-10 cm 
thick compact ice occurs. From Sikeä southwards 
new ice has formed close the coast. 
Voraussichtliche Eisentwicklung 
In den nächsten 24 Stunden kann sich in der 
Bottenvik weiterhin Neueis bilden, sonst werden sich 
die Eisverhältnisse im nördlichen Ostseeraum nicht 
yesentlich verändern. Im Verlauf des heutigen 
Tages zieht ein umfangreiches Tiefdruckgebiet über 
der nördlichen Nordsee langsam ostwärts und wird 
Dis Sonntag für den Ostseebereich wetter- 
vestimmend sein. Dann ist bei starken südlichen 
Winden mit windbedingten Anderungen der Eislage 
zu rechnen. Das Eis in der nördlichen Bottenvik und 
im östlichen Finnischen Meerbusen wird an den 
Nordküsten zusammengeschoben, zeitweise sind 
Eispressungen möglich. 
Expected Ice Development 
Within the next 24 hours some new ice may further 
form in the Bay of Bothnia, else ice conditions in the 
northern region of the Baltic Sea will not change 
very much. In the course of today an intense low 
oressure area over the northern North Sea will 
slowly move eastwards and affect the weather in 
the Baltic Sea region till Sunday. Then, wind 
nduced changes of the ice situation are to be 
axpected due to strong southerly winds. The ice in 
the northern Bay of Bothnia and in the eastern part 
of the Gulf of Finland will be compacted at the 
northern coasts. At times, ice pressure is possible.
